The Government of United Kingdom has set aside a total of 109 million UK pounds to boost Productive Social Safety Net-PSSN Program implemented by Tanzania Social Action Fund-TASAF.

A statement issued by the Head of DFID Tanzania Mr. Vel Gnanendran during an event of signing a Memorandum of Understanding on PSSN program between The Government of the United Republic of Tanzania and the Government of The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland acting through the Department for International Development-DFID stipulated that the funding of that amount which is approximated at 367.5 billion Tanzania Shillings will be split and provided consecutively over the next five years .

"This event is a result of many years of partnership between the UK and Tanzania in the design and early implementation of the PSSN, culminating PSSN in today's agreement underlying UK commitment to support Tanzania to reduce poverty. " Gnanendran said.

On his side, The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Dr. Servacius Likwelile who signed the Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of the Government of Tanzania made it that the amount to be released is not a loan but an aid to support PSSN household beneficiaries so that they can graduate from extreme poverty.    

The program is expected to support over one million poorest households in the country with approximately 6.5 Million household beneficiaries.
