The Ambassador of Spain in Tanzania his Excellency Luis Cuesta Civis and the UN Resident Coordinator Alvaro Rodriguez visited Chasimba Village, Bagamoyo district in Coast Region to see various interventions that are being carried out by Bagamoyo District Council with the support from Tanzania Social Action Fund (TASAF).

Speaking during the visit, Ambassador Civis said his government was proud of the job done by TASAF in its effort to fight poverty among the communities in the country and Chasimba village in particular through Productive Social Safety Net –PSSN- program.

He said to join hand with TASAF his government through the Sustainable Development Goals Fund-SDGF- has granted UN Agencies in Tanzania through its Delivering as One initiative over Tsh. 3.1 Billion towards Community Development Projects some of which implemented by TASAF.

“We believe this Program is essential as it has reached out many poor women and children as well as people with disabilities who are the most vulnerable in any community” he said.

On the other hand, the UN Resident Coordinator in Tanzania Mr. Alvaro Rodriguez thanked Spain for supporting TASAF which he said could spearhead the effort to fight poverty by enabling poor household improve their lives by sending their children to school ,participating in saving schemes, raise their income and to end absolute poverty in the country.

“We are delighted with this collaborative effort between Tanzanian government, Spain and UN agencies working with the most vulnerable community” he said.

Speaking during the visit, TASAF Executive Director Mr. Ladislaus Mwamanga emphasized that Productive Social Safety Net-PSSN program implementation has started to stimulate and motivate beneficiaries to engage seriously in development issues, arousing their willingness and understanding towards the fight against poverty amongst themselves.

“This is well explained with the current development where as, the communities on self bases continue to improve their life standards” he said

While in Chasimba, the entourage visited some PSSN beneficiaries to see how they have been benefiting from the program. Kicheko Omary was among the beneficiaries who apart from spending the money to buy school uniforms, exercise books for her three grandchildren, she has also managed to buy a solar panel after generating more funds from small economic  activities.
